Flood Buckets and Donations for Flood Relief

Over 60,000 homes have been damaged by the disastrous flooding in Louisiana and Florida Conference church members can help the families in distress. You can go to the Louisiana Conference website to view videos and other resources to help better understand the need.

As United Methodists in the Florida Conference, we are stepping up to respond to this urgent need for relief.  All churches have been challenged to donate as many flood buckets as we can by Sept 13.  The Florida Conference hopes to send a least one tractor-trailer (aka semi, 18-wheeler, big rig, or lorry depending on where your people are from) with Flood buckets to Louisiana.

Please bring flood buckets to the church no later than Monday, Sept 12.   You can also make a donation to help the Louisiana Conference’s relief efforts. Instructions for both are below:

Flood Buckets
  1. Click here for a list of what goes in the bucket and a video showing how to pack it.
  2. Get creative!
    1. When purchasing supplies, tell retailers what you’re doing and ask for a discount or donation. What a witness!
    2. Have a cleaning bucket packing party. Serve food: We’re Methodists!
    3. Challenge your friends to get involved.
    4. Bless the buckets and pray for the lives they will touch.
    5. People like knowing where the cleaning buckets come from, so put a label with your church name on the outside. Let them know you care.

Donations
If you would like to make a donation towards the individuals and communities affected by the Louisiana floods, you can send your contribution to the church office or place it in the offering using the Mission Envelopes next Sunday (9/11/16). Please indicate “Fund 101190 – Louisiana Flood Relief” on the check or envelope. All money received will be given directly to the Louisiana Conference, enabling them to use the money where it is needed most.
