Day 26: Jesus enters Jerusalem
Then they brought a colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it; and he sat on it. Many people spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut in the fields.
Some went ahead and some followed him, shouting, ‘Hosanna!’
...and Jesus entered Jerusalem.~Mark 11:7-11
Standing above Jerusalem looking down on the old city and looking at the many graves in the Kidron Valley is a sight that becomes burned into one's memory. Having been in Israel on six occasions, the journey back to my "spiritual homeland" is one that leaves you breathless. And then to walk the many places where Jesus supposedly walked and to pray in the Garden of Gethsemane where olive trees still stand from when Jesus prayed in the Garden...these thoughts and experiences just go on and on. If I could, I would return to the Holy Land every year...even if it means enduring a 16 hour flight to get there. But the question was asked by Pastor Emily to talk about "my" journey to the cross. While I reflect on the many trips to the city where Jesus was crucified I have to say that "my journey" is still in process and it really has nothing to do with having traveled many times to the Holy Land.
...As a matter of fact I don't believe that my journey even began until I began to serve. Whenever I am engaged in an act of service to others then is when the journey began and continues to be.
PRAYER:
Help me Lord to serve you each and every day.
..and through service to others I will find Christ.
Amen
Help me Lord to serve you each and every day.
..and through service to others I will find Christ.
Amen
